A passion for creative spaces

Swallow Creek Cottages are situated in Buffeljagsrivier on a quiet small holding with a beautiful view of the mountains. The cottages are centrally located in Buffeljagsrivier, exactly 200km’s between George and Cape Town and just 10 km’s from Swellendam. They are close to popular wedding venues (e.g. Chris-Elle) and Buffeljags Watersport/Umshanti at the scenic Buffeljags Dam.

The small holding currently has 3 cottages and is perfect for a quick stop-over or spending a little more time in the Overberg. Our accommodation is great value for money – each equipped with a self-catering kitchen in order to prepare your own meals, or visit one of the many coffee shops and restaurants that Swellendam has to offer. (There are also 2 great farm stalls/coffee shops to visit in Buffeljagsrivier itself for a lovely breakfast or lunch).

Each cottage is fenced with a small lawn and offers safe parking. Your pets are welcome and safe here.

COTTAGES

Swallow Creek offers comfortable yet affordable self-catering accommodation, with a beautiful mountain view, in a peaceful farm setting. It is situated in Buffeljagsrivier, not far from Swellendam, nestled against the majestic Langeberg Mountains. Also note that you can bring along your best friend/friends because these cottages are pet friendly.

Cottage 1

A cosy cottage that used to be a cowshed! This one bedroom cottage is perfect for a couple visiting this beautiful area. Enjoy a braai outside on the patio in the summer, or warm up in winter with an inside fireplace.

A 2 Bedroom cottage with a beautiful view of the Langeberg Mountains. Can sleep up to 4 people.

This cottage provides the ultimate farm feeling as your neighbour is a dairy farmer and the Jersey cows come for a regular visit.

Lavender farm

An enchanting smallholding growing mainly French Dentate Elegans Lavender – renowned for its flowers. The farm also sells plants, bunches of flowers, distill their own essential oils and manufacture creams, soaps etc.

Bontebok National Park

Explore the smallest national park of the South African National Parks’ stable – on the banks of the Breede River, just 5km from the town of Swellendam in the Western Cape. Part of the Cape Floral Kingdom (a World Heritage Site), Bontebok National Park is always boasting something in bloom. Discover the beauty of the park through a day visit or overnight stay – watch the Bontebok grazing from your chalet window, or spy on the many birds home to the park from the viewing deck at the picnic and braai area.

Drostdy Museum

The Drostdy was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1747 to serve as residence and official headquarters for the Landdrost. Soon after a gaol, a house for the secretary, a mill and various outbuildings were erected. In 1846 the government sold the Drostdy and the property was subdivided. In 1855 the former Drostdy was bought by the Steyn family and it remained in the hands of this family until 1939 when it was bought by the government of the Union of South Africa for the purpose of establishing a museum.

La Mont

A private dairy farm is situated on the rolling hills ar the foot of the spectacular Langeberg mountains between the towns of Ashton and Swellendam. 

The well-known Van Loveren Cellar has partnered with La Mont Cheese at the La Mont Bistro & Deli, offering tasting of a wide variety of cheese and wine.

 Directions

From Cape Town on the N1: you will approach Swellendam via the R60. Do not turn into town at the 4 way stop, but continue until you reach the N2. Turn left and continue +/- 10 km’s on the N2 in the direction of George. At the Buffeljags Correctional Services, turn left (Sparrebosch turn-off) and continue about 100m – turn right on short gravel road.

 From Cape Town on the N2: Continue to Swellendam on the N2, do not turn into town, and instead continue +/- 10 km’s on the N2 in the direction of George. At the Buffeljags Correctional Services, turn left (Sparrebosch turn-off) and continue about 100m – turn right on short gravel road.

From George on the N2: Continue in the direction of Swellendam +/- 10 km’s before town you will find Buffeljagsrivier (note the BP petrol station on your left). Continue until just past the church and turn right at the Sparrebosch turn-off (just before the Buffeljags Correctional Services). Continue about 100m – turn right on short gravel road.
